3 things I learnt being a contestant on The Chase

I appeared as a contestant on ITV’s ‘The Chase’ in early 2024. It was an amazing experience, if a little overwhelming! Here are some things I learned reflecting on my experience…

1) I still get nervous!

I coach a lot of my clients to manage their nerves during interviewing and networking. I know all the techniques in the book! This definitely doesn’t mean I don’t experience nerves anymore! I was extremely nervous during the filming back in March 2023, and was almost as nervous watching it back when it aired on TV last month! As I often tell my clients, however, it’s not about eliminating those nerves, it’s about learning how to manage them.

2) My general knowledge needs some work

I am a big fan of The Chase, and of game shows in general. I love games, quizzing, and definitely have a competitive streak. Unfortunately, that didn’t translate into much impressive general knowledge under the pressure of ITV’s studio lights!

3) Bradley Walsh is just as nice in real life

And so was the Chaser I faced – Anne Hegerty AKA The Governess. I only wish I’d had more time to chat with them! I did manage to cheekily plug my book though, which is always a bonus!
