I recently did something I’ve never done before.
I went swimming in our local lido… alone. On a school day!

As a working mum of two, it’s no exaggeration to say, this felt wild. (Oh, how the 20-something me would laugh that this is now my idea of wild).
In true LinkedIn spirit, here are three things I noticed from my impromptu mid-week swim:
1) I’m a lot slower than I remember, I got overtaken… in the slow lane
2) I’m not very good at being mindful. During the swim I was thinking about the work I should have been doing instead. Then I started thinking I could write a LinkedIn post about the swim. Then got annoyed with myself for thinking this.
3) It really was a delight doing something completely on my own. There were so many other solo swimmers, mostly women, some older than me, all in their element. As I approach the big 4-oh later this year, that felt like a good sign.
So, if you’ve been thinking of doing something that’s a bit unusual for you, take this as your sign to give it a go!
