It’s so easy to look at other people’s holiday pictures and feel envious.
It’s also easy to look at people’s shiny job titles and feel jealous.
When I was unhappy in my job, I used to spend hours doom-scrolling on Instagram and LinkedIn, wishing I could be sunning myself on a balmy beach in the Mediterranean, or in a job that made me feel more fulfilled.
But what happens when you throw in the towel on your city life, escape it all, and still aren’t happy?
Unfortunately, this is more common than we might think. When we make big decisions based on what sounds good on paper, or looks appealing from the outside, we can sometimes end up out of the frying pan and into the fire.
This is exactly what happened to the reader in my latest career column for The i Paper. They left their London life behind to become a digital nomad in Bali, complete with a swimming pool. Sounds amazing, right? But they’re finding it not all it’s cracked up to be.
So what can we do when we have achieved everything we thought we wanted and we’re still not happy? It might look good on Instagram, but does it actually feel right?
